Not the most thought provoking question, but I thought it would be fun if everyone shared what their first myths were. How old were you? How were you exposed to them? What were your first impressions of them? Do you remember what your favorite was? Looking back, how do you feel now?

My first myth was the Celtic Myth of Beith Gellert. I was quite young, but I've always known it. I loved it and I still do. I used to make my mother read it to me all the time when I was little. The story taught me about loyalty and bravery, no matter the cost, and to love unconditionally. That myth has played a major role for me in who I became, despite it being a very uncommon and little known myth, I'm as loyal as Beith Gellert was to hs master, even in the face of death, to my kith and kin. I never forget kindness shown to me, and I try to return it in kind without wanting anything in return. That myth has probably gotten me through most of the figts i have ever had with any of the friends I've held dear.

My first exposure to mythology in general was when I was very young. My mother was very fascinated with Egypt, and we always watched the specials on tv. She also had tons of books on the subject. The first time I read myths myself was for a class in elementary school, where we got a small book on Greek myths. Even way back then, I was drawn to it, and kept wanting to read more. I found Hera and Zeus' antics hilarious, and the myth that stuck with me for awhile was Athena and Ariadne.

The first one I remember reading was the creation myth of all the gods, and I was really young. Maybe 6 or 7.

I don't remember how or why, but around 4the grade I became obsessed with Norway. My grandfather had an old encyclopedia collection that I began flipping through for any topic related to Norway. So of course I found the Norse myths and fairy tales. I don't recall which one my favorite was, but it opened up a entirely new world for me.
