Sex magic is fun The thing with sex is, it is a great way to raise energy! At the same time though, it is sometimes hard to concentrate lol. There is a book by Donald Michael Kraig called sex magic. It is very ritualistic, though, which isn't everyone's thing. I tend to do a more free-form version, where the sex act is used to raise massive amounts of energy and then released towards the goal. I have done sex magic both with and without my partner knowing it. On the one hand, by channelling the energy by yourself, you do have more control over your energy. And it can be more spontaneous. Working actively with another is one of the most intimate things you can do together, akin to the Great Rite, where Goddess and God join in love. It takes more planning, but is well worth it. I would make sure the two parties can flawlessly work together magically before trying such a thing though. There is also Tantra, where sex is used to achieve a sort of cosmic consciousness. On to using substances in ritual..... there are pros and cons to it. On the one hand, carefully applied use of hallucinogenics and/or alcohol can aid in a state of altered consciousness. Numerous cultures, from the Greeks to Native Americans to South American tribal religions, have used some sort of this. The Pythia, the Prophetess of Apollo at Delphi, chewed on laurel leaves, and sat on a tripod over a chasm that emitted gases. In the Eleusinian Mysteries, initiates drank the kykeon, which contained carefully cultivated ergot from barley. South Americans used mushrooms and the Native Americans used peyote. The problem with using such things to alter one's consciousness is that it often becomes a sort of crutch, where one HAS to use the substance in order or reach that altered state. It is best to err on the side of caution. Personally, I have created my own kykeon for an Eleusinian rite (granted, I was fresh out of barley with ergot, so I used wormwood instead), and have made wormwood wine. There is a great book caled Plants of the Gods that goes over they myriad uses of psychotropic herbs in ritual. I do know of skyclad covens currently practicing. I personally don't like it, but then again I tend to be very dramatic in ritual, since I'm a theatre person (flashing fire that turns purple? Sure, why not!!!!) And so I dress very dramatically as well. The reason for being skyclad is that you are releasing all things that bind, being present in circle in a purest form. Clothing is thought to impede the flow of energy. Again, I don't agree. In many instances what you wear adds to the psychodrama of ritual. I do not hold that you need to wear a certain robe, etc for magical workings. The thought with this is, the clothing holds some of the energy and becomes magically charged. I wear street clothes to most rituals, unless I am donning a costume for a deity aspecting or ritual drama. But then again, this is coming from a woman who wears a corset to a day at the zoo..... I am the Priestess of Aphrodite, after all!!!!!!

Sex magic is amazing. I think it should only be done under love though.
As for doing rituals under the influence... I hate drugs, I'm against them, so I'm completely against using magic while using drugs. It's too easy to get sloppy, or forget something important.

There are covens who do practice skyclad those initiates are aware before they Join and they do not falter on it. Gardenarian covens and Alexandrian practice skyclad in their tradition. I have never practiced any magical workings what so ever under any kind of influential drugs or alcohol. I feel it leaves you open to unwanted or possible negative energy that would use it to take advantage of you. You must be in control at all times. I have never personally practiced any kind of sex magic either. That I feel must be a free will thing. If Your partner is a willing participant than go for it-

I have never done magick under the influence, nor do I think it wise. It's not only dangerous to you, and like Fionna said, it pulls in unwanted energy, but you're also disrespecting the dieities and elements by not giving them your full attention, at least in my opinion. I've tried sex magick and while I find it a great way to raise energy, it's not really my thing. Again, I agree with Fionna in that your partner should be made aware of and give their consent, because making love with someone isn't fair to the person not raising it and unaware of it when they're giving you their heart and soul and you're focused eles where. I see no problem with sex magick though and in some ways I think it helps alot of pagan couples (and couples with mixed beliefs, i.e. a pagan and a buddist maybe) bond magickally.
