Saturday, April 9th was Artemis' feast day, and looking back at that day, the amount of bad things that didn't happen to me make sense.
First let me start by saying that every April 9th, the goddess should be remembered, not just for her influence tied to the moon, but as a strong protector, mother goddess, and an emblem of female strength to over come tough obstacles.
I'll be the first to admit, I'd over looked this feast day, and shame on me and my name, because she is my patron and I feel very close to her, even closer now, given what I know she did for me.
On to my personal story on her feast day:
It is a well known fact that my 13 year old car is a death trap, and Saturday was no exception. I was driving on the highway that night after I left my roomates house, and for two days previous, my car had been stalling and right before I left I had a horrible feeling to stay at my roomates' place, but opting for the comforts of a bed and peace and quiet rather then the floor and noisy conversation, I ignored it and left.
Now, my car always shakes on the highway, and for a car that age, it's normal. But it got really bad, so I pulled over and examined the car thinking that perhaps I had a flat. "just my luck...a flat on the highway and I'm all alone, great." I thought, but the tires were in perfect condition, and I was set to go. I had been driving for about a half an hour when my car shook violently, and in my efforts to slow my car down to a stop, the most deadly thing I've ever lived through occured, my tire came flying off my drivers side and flew down the highway as my car skidded to a stop on it's rotor, leaving a trail of bright sparks in the dark stretch of highway, and in addition, there was a semi headed straight for my car, and it wasn't slowing. I tried to get out, but the tire had bent my frame so badly that it blocked my drivers side door, and I couldnt get out in time. At that last possible moment, when I felt it was all over for me, I noticed for whatI felt was the last time, the crecent moon hanging above me and Artemis' name flashed in my head. The semi finally saw me and swerved violently to miss me, I felt horrible, because I could hear his truck screeching with the effort as he pulled to the right side of the highway and came to a stop. The trucker got out and braved crossing the highway to get to me and knocked on my window, yelling to see if I was alright. I yelled I couldn't get out of my car, the door was stuck. He pulled it hard a few times before he managed to pry it open just enough for me to get out. He told me to cross the highway to his truck, where I'd be less likely to get hit if a car didn't notice my broken down one and he handed me his cell phone to call the police. The trucker set up flares around my car and waited with me until the cops arrived to make sure I was safe. "I have a daughter about your age, Iwould want someone to help her if she were in your shoes. " He told me when I thanked him.
The cops were nice, and after taking a look at my rogue tire, he told me the reason why my tire had done what it had. "someone loosened your lugnuts on your tire sweety." He told me. "some one tried to kill you." I was shocked. I don't really have enemies like that, at least not that I know of. "You're lucky you know. SOmething like this could've killed you, or cause irrepairable damage. As it is, your car only has minor damage, your tire is still in perfect condition, and your rims are untouched as is your caliper. It'll cost some money though, but it's all easy and quick repairs."
I called the tow and had it towed to Cuyahoga falls to my roomates' who had also driven out to come get me after I called them and my little sister (who met me at their house.).
I should've been dead, someone wanted me to be, but I can say without a doubt that Artemis saved me. She did everything in her power to help keep me alive. I'm so grateful to her for that.
The damage to my car cost me 450, but it's worth it thinking about what could have been. 450 is a cheap price to pay for my life. And you know what? When I saw my sister, I don't think anyone had ever made me so happy to see, as she did that moment, and for as upset and shaken as I was my sister was the only person who got me to laugh.
So Hail Artemis, and I thank thee for thy protection and watching over me and my sister that night. Because my sister still needs me, and you saved the one family she has that she can trust, and she's grateful to you too.
"Great goddess Artemis, ruler of night, gaurd me and mine until the light."
Blessed be.
